OSH ACT of 1970 Section (5)(a)(1): Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to crushing hazards: a) On or about 3/20/2014, Maintenance Shop: Employees performing vehicle maintenance were exposed to crushing hazards while working underneath raised vehicle mounted manure tanks. The safety prop rod system to support the raised tanks did not have a pin installed or "pocket" installed in accordance with the manufacturers specifications. The prop rod system was not in use. Among other feasible and acceptable means of abatement would be to: 1) Ensure that prop rods and/ or blocking is used while working underneath raised vehicle mounted structures and parts. 2) Ensure that employees are trained in the need for and proper use of prop rods and/ or blocking. 3) Ensure that the prop rod systems installed on the vehicles are installed in compliance with the manufactures requirements. Reference Harsh Rigid Lift Installation & Operations Manual pages 14 through 19. Abatement certification is required for this item. |

OSH ACT of 1970 Section (5)(a)(1): Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to electrocution hazards: a) On or about 3/31/2014, Sick Cow Barn: Employees were exposed to energized parts of a switching mechanism for the milk tank cooler compressor. b) On or about 3/31/2014, Sick Cow Barn: Employees were exposed to electrical equipment that was not installed in a safe and workmanlike manner such as no strain relief provided for wires entering into electrical motors. c) On or about 3/31/2014, Sick Cow Barn: Employees were exposed to electrical equipment that was not installed in a safe and workmanlike manner such as electrical connections being made outside of a junction box. Among other feasible and acceptable means of abatement would be to comply with the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Code 70, National Electric Code, Section 110.27 and Section 110.12. |
