Material should have been stored a minimum of 2 feet from the edge of the excavation. Employees were exposed to a struck by hazard. |

Citation text line | 29 CFR 1926.651(c)(2): A stairway, ladder, ramp or other safe means of egress was not located in trench excavations that were 4 feet (1.22m) or more in depth so as to require no more than 25 feet (7.62m) of lateral travel for employees: a) Building foundation excavation - On or about 18 May, 2012 - Employees were working in a rectagular trench that was 80 feet long on two sides and 30 feet wide on two sides and had a trench width of 5 feet installing a footer form. Employees only had 2 means of egress out of the excavation, a ladder and a sloped entrance in the event of a cave in. Employees were exposed to a struck by or crushing hazard. |
