29 CFR 1926.501(b)(1): Each employee on a walking/working surface with an unprotected side or edge which was 6 feet (1.8 m) or more above a lower level was not protected from falling by the use of guardrail systems, safety net systems, or personal fall arrest systems: a) On or about 7/17/13, at a Sunoco Service Station under renovation, 4479 Lake Avenue, Blasdell, NY: Two employees were exposed to a potential fall of 10 ft. 6 in. while walking on the roof of the "Snack Shop" to ascertain the purpose of a wire running from a pole, over the top of the canopy being dismantled, and over the roof of the snack shop. One of the employees was actually leaning over the south edge of the shop, jiggling the wire at the point where it entered the building. No guardrails or other fall protection system was being utilized to protect the employees. NO ABATEMENT CERTIFICATION REQUIRED |
