Eisner, when discussing the value of art education said that “School programs that do not provide adequate time and attention to the arts deny students access to a stunning part of their culture.” The mission at Rosebud Art Studio is to create time and attention for the students, so that they may become skilled artists and gain access to a stunning part of our visual art culture. The studio has a group of trained, highly skilled artists who believe in the Vygotskian zone of proximal development. As dedicated art professionals and educators, the studio aims and strives to support the artistic learning process in our students by building the right kind of skill-based creative scaffolds until the student can perform as an artist independently. We teach Drawing, Painting, Sculpture, Printmaking, and Ceramics/Pottery for kids and adults. In Drawing, students learn the basics of drawing using line, form, shape, and gradation. Students learn to draw still life objects, landscapes, portraits, and full figure using various drawing tools such as Ebony pencils, Charcoal pencils, Charcoal stick, Conte crayon, Oil pastels, and Artist pen. In Painting, students learn to paint still life objects, landscapes, portraits, and full figure using various mediums like Watercolor paints, Acrylic paints, Tempera paints, and Oil paints. In Sculpture, students learn to make sculptures of Animals and portraits and full figures of the human body using clay, cardboard, paper, and other creative materials. Students also learn molding and casting processes. In Printmaking, Students learn techniques like Foam Plate Etching and Collagraph Printing (younger students) and Linoleum Cut, Plexiglass Engraving and Dry Point over Zinc/Aluminum Plate Engraving (adult students). In Ceramics, students learn to throw pots on the wheel, Trimming, and glazing. Students also learn to hand build various mugs, bowls, and plates. Students get their pots fired in the kiln at the end of each program module. The studio has regular, yearlong after school and weekend programs for kids to learn visual art skills throughout the year. Recently, the studio has started teaching art skill to special needs students. This is an enriching, fulfilling, and rewarding program aimed at improving the hand and eye coordination, listening skills, following instruction skills, and other fine art skills to students with special needs. The studio runs art camps during school holidays throughout the year. The after-school programs and the art camps help parents to engage their children in art activities that are otherwise not easily accessible to them. In the process of learning various art skills in the studio, students also learn Art History related to artists from America and from different parts of the world. The studio accepts students who are passionate about art and who are interested in learning more to improve their skills! |
